Should I send outreach without personalization?

Is personalization mandatory or a nice to have?


Let’s say you’re writing an outreach message and there’s no data for personalization. Should you still send this message?

The short answer is no.

Not having any data for personalization means one of three things:

  • You haven’t researched the lead thoroughly enough
  • You don’t understand the ICP deeply enough to know what’s relevant
  • You’re only prioritizing volume when it comes to outreach

What to do instead if there’s not much info on the lead?

  1. Use proxies like team member’s posts
    • "Saw Brandon from your team is hiring for demand gen..."
  1. Use assumptions
    • "Saw you're hiring another SDR, usually this means…"
  2. Use lookalikes
    • "Been chatting with other revenue leaders and they mentioned…"
