The first wave of AI SDRs

I’ve started talking to the first wave of revenue leaders that tried an AI SDR solution and failed.


In almost all instances, it drove no meetings. 

Not a low number of meetings, but no meetings.

Here’s what I’m hearing:

  • Messages are coming from an AI instead of reps at the company
  • Email is the only channel used
  • Open rates are 60%+ but no responses
  • Messaging is similar to their Outreach/Salesloft sequences

My theory is that most AI SDRs solutions on the market today are only able to replicate an average SDR. But in 2024 (soon 2025), outbound teams need exceptional SDRs and/or exceptional inbound to win in the market.

My suggestion?

If you’re still a believer and you’re on the lookout for something that can match exceptional SDRs, here’s the checklist to have:

  • Is message quality as good as manually researched and handwritten messages?
  • Does the AI work multichannel? - email AND LinkedIn
  • Does the AI monitor leads for buying signals and nurture them over time?
  • Does the AI use data sources like - 10Ks, LinkedIn posts, etc.. in real time?
  • Does the AI go beyond demographic data when searching for leads and actually look at the lead’s job description, skills and current tools?
  • Does this AI product have a dedicated CSM to help you tune the model?
